About Us
HVAC Learning Solutions is the training department of Lennox Industries, headquartered in Richardson, Texas. We offer both online and instructor-led training solutions internally across various business units of Lennox International (LII) as well as business, sales, and technical training to independent HVAC dealers and other customers across the United States and Canada.
Here's a little about the HVAC Learning Solutions team.
Mike Moore, Director
Mike is the Director of Training at HVAC Learning Solutions and one of the original founders of the organization. He has been an integral part of the Lennox family since 2000. He brings fourteen years of HVAC and ten years of corporate training experience to the table. Mike earned a B.S. Degree in Human Resources from the University of Kansas. Mike’s credentials include certifications in Civil Treatment, Diversity Training, Achieve Global, and Society for Human Resource Management. He is also an active member of the American Society of Training & Development (ASTD). Mike’s primary passion is “to ensure that all of our customers are served in an outstanding fashion. I want to have an organization where all of our employees are actively involved in finding ways to improve the business. Our organization grows because of our customers.”
Vickie Ashmore, Manager of Training Delivery
Vickie has been a Manager of Training for HVACLS since 2005, but she has been involved with virtually every level of the HVAC industry for much longer than that. She started with Lennox Industries in 1989 as a Dealer Business Consultant, working one-on-one with dealers in Dallas, TX to improve all phases of their operations: production, sales, marketing, and organization. Later, as a Regional Marketing Manager, she worked closely with Lennox districts and dealers in the NE, SE, SW, and Canadian regions, helping them develop and implement their marketing plans.
Bonnie Maupin, Marketing Manager
Bonnie is currently the Marketing Manager for HVAC Learning Solutions and served as a Regional Trainer and Area Trainer for 5 years. Bonnie is a veteran in the HVAC industry working with Lennox Industries for over 40 years. Her extensive business-oriented background has included roles such as Territory Manager, Regional Marketing Manager, District Credit Manager and Business Development Specialist. Projects included new customer prospecting, retention and development in targeted markets; customized territory manager training; business coaching with customers; sales and marketing program development. Bonnie is also a popular speaker at the Lennox dealer meetings.
Dave Nichols, Senior Sales Trainer
Dave joined HVACLS in 2004 and has over sixteen years of service with the Lennox organization and a total of more than thirty years of experience in the HVAC industry. In addition, Dave has been involved in adult learning, training development and delivery for over 25 years. Outside of the industry, Dave worked for a manufacturer of firefighting equipment, a paper manufacturer, customs broker, President of a Professional Association, computer distributor, and owned/operated a home renovation business. He also holds the following professional designations: Fellow Credit Institute and Industrial, Commercial and Institutional Accountant.
David Flanagin, Senior Instructional Designer
David joined HVACLS in 2007. David has over 20 years of experience in education at the university level, serving as a professor of English and film studies, curriculum developer, writing tutor, and departmental webmaster. He has taught at Texas Tech University, Howard Payne University ,the University of Texas at Arlington, and Collin College. Prior to joining HVACLS, David served as a Senior Consultant for A. Miller Consulting Services, where he led documentation projects as a Project Manager and Senior Technical Writer for various clients (including ExxonMobil, Valero Energy, Azteca Construction, ConocoPhillips, and others), and as a Senior Technical Writer for Hewlett Packard. David has also owned a small media production business and has published several articles as well as numerous film reviews in the Magill's Cinema Annual series. He graduated from Howard Payne University with a B.A. in English and Journalism/Radio/TV/Film and completed a M.A. in English at Texas Tech University. David brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in documentation design, education, eLearning, multi-media, and web development.
Linda Rummans, Senior Instructional Designer
Linda joined HVACLS in 2005. Linda has had almost 7 years of experience in the HVAC industry and over 11 years of experience in adult learning and training. She earned an Associates of Applied Science, Mid-Management from North Central Texas College.
Rafael Garcia, Project Manager II/Senior Instructional Designer
Rafael joined HVACLS in 2010. Having served in both private and government sectors, he brings a combined 15 years educational training, organizational and project management experience. Currently, oversees the production of webinars, eCourses, and project management schedules for HVACLS. His accomplishments include: managing the development and implementation of adult learning curriculum and instruction, training development, and instructional design of a $3.6 million government contract, leading, managing, and training instructional design teams of 30 plus personnel, and overseeing the development of over 400 hours of instruction. His educational background includes: attaining his Project Management Certification in 2011 from the Project Management Academy (completing the requisite 35 hours of instruction), is bi-lingual in Spanish, and is a graduate of the University of Phoenix having earned a B.S. in Business Administration; an M.B.A. in Organizational Management; a M.Ed. in Adult Learning, Curriculum, and Instruction; and is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Education (Ed.D) in Educational Leadership and Education Technology.

Jan Shaffor-Roberts
While her primary charter is to support Mr. Moore, Jan has been a long-standing source of support to everyone in the organization. She is also well known to our internal and external customers as a valuable resource for help and information, and plays a key role in our registration and administrative processes. Jan has been involved with the training organization since 2001 and with Lennox since 1993.

Jose De La Portilla, Senior Technical Training Consultant
Jose De La Portilla is a Technical Trainer with HVAC Learning Solutions, based in Carrollton, Texas. Jose has had over 20 years experience in the trade with over 15 years as a technical instructor and field technical consultant working with Technicians, installers, sales people, designers, engineers, business owners, and operators. Jose earned his degree in Air Conditioning & Refrigeration technology from Long Beach City College in sunny Long Beach California. He is NATE certified in ten specialties as well as being a NATE and EPA proctor. Jose is one of the instructors in the BuildATech program and conducts load calculation training, air distribution training, and several of our technical webinars.
Larry Borg, Senior Technical Training Consultant
Larry Borg is a Senior Technical Trainer with HVAC Learning Solutions, based out of Toronto, Ontario Canada. Larry has had over 40 years experience in the HVAC trade with more than 20 years as a technical instructor and field technical consultant working with Technicians, installers, sales people, engineers, business owners, and operators. During his career with Lennox, Larry also served for many years as national service manager for Lennox Canada. Larry is a licensed Air Conditioning & Heat Pump technician, and he is NATE certified in multiple specialties as well as being a NATE, EPA and ODP proctor.
Perry Maxwell, Technical Training Consultant
Perry Maxwell is a Technical Trainer with HVAC Learning Solutions, based out of Carrollton, Texas. Perry has 26 years experience within the HVAC and Refrigeration Trade in the field and training on numerous types of equipment. Perry has been with Lennox Industries for 6 yrs and spent the first 4 years with Lennox working for Product Development and Research with commercial and residential engineering within Lennox. Perry has spent the last 2 years developing and teaching BuildATech, Technical Webinars, and BASP classes in Carrollton, Texas. Perry is NATE and EPA certified and proctor and member of ACCA for HVAC Learning Solutions.

Gene Goff, Technical Trainer
Gene has over 50 years experience in the HVAC industry and 26 years of that in training. He started out in 1961 working with his father in the contracting segment. Since then he has had experience on both the wholesale and manufacturing level. He has been a trainer for Lennox for the past 4 years, primarily doing the Build-A-Tech training in Nashville as well as teaching various other classes. He was instrumental in starting and implementing the NATE Certification program, as well as the EPA certification program. He served in the US Army, and was awarded the Bronze Star for Meritorious Service. He is a graduate of the University of Charleston in Charleston, WV.
